Latest Pan India Movie Review: They Call Him OG

Plot

Ojas Gambheera, known as OG, is raised by the Black Dragon Society in Japan and grows into a feared gangster in Bombay. After a long absence, he returns to settle unfinished business with rival Omi Bhau. Power struggles, betrayal, loyalty, and redemption shape his violent yet emotional journey.

Overview

They Call Him OG is a high-voltage action drama directed by Sujeeth. Mounted on a grand scale, the film banks heavily on style, mass elevation scenes, and Pawan Kalyan’s magnetic presence. While technically polished and packed with commercial moments, the story follows a familiar path, limiting its emotional impact.

Performances

  • Pawan Kalyan: Dominates the screen with charisma and swag. His interval block, police station sequence, and climax scenes stand out.
  • Emraan Hashmi: Makes a confident Telugu debut as Omi Bhau. Though effective, his character lacks strong development.
  • Priyanka Mohan: Limited role but delivers a neat performance.
  • Prakash Raj: Adds weight and authority as Satya Dada.
  • Arjun Das, Sriya Reddy & Others: Perform well but are restricted by thin character arcs.

Technical Aspects

  • Direction: Sujeeth prioritizes stylish presentation and hero elevation over emotional depth.
  • Cinematography: Rich visuals by Ravi K. Chandran and Manoj Paramahamsa enhance the film’s stylish tone.
  • Production Design: Grand and authentic, creating a strong visual atmosphere.
  • Screenplay: Engaging in parts but predictable overall.

Music

Thaman S delivers a powerful background score that elevates key action blocks. The “Johnny Gun” sequence stands out for its impactful sound design. Songs are situational and blend well with the narrative.

Editing

Editing feels inconsistent. While action sequences are sharp, repetitive stretches and a lengthy pre-climax slow the pace.

Positives

  • Pawan Kalyan’s screen presence
  • Stylish action sequences
  • Interval and post-interval blocks
  • Strong background score
  • Rich cinematography

Negatives

  • Predictable storyline
  • Weak emotional depth
  • Uneven pacing
  • Underdeveloped antagonist and supporting roles

Analysis

They Call Him OG succeeds as a mass entertainer primarily because of Pawan Kalyan’s commanding presence and Sujeeth’s stylish execution. Technically impressive and musically charged, the film delivers satisfying moments for fans. However, the lack of emotional weight and routine storytelling prevent it from reaching classic status. Fans will celebrate; neutral audiences may find it average.

BottomlineStylish Mass Entertainer
