Mahesh Babu and SS Rajamouli’s highly anticipated Varanasi has completed nearly 90 percent of filming, with the final schedule now underway. The makers are preparing to move into post-production as the global-scale adventure targets an April 7, 2027 theatrical release.
Varanasi Shoot Reaches Final Stage
The much-awaited collaboration between Mahesh Babu and director SS Rajamouli continues to generate strong excitement following the release of its first glimpse. Titled Varanasi, the ambitious project is being mounted on a large scale with the intention of reaching audiences across the world. Rajamouli has now revealed that nearly 90 percent of the film’s shooting has already been completed. The team is currently working on the remaining portions, bringing the extensive production phase close to its conclusion. According to the director, the entire shoot is expected to be wrapped up by the end of this month.
Post-Production to Begin Soon
Once filming is completed, Rajamouli and his technical team will shift their attention to the film’s lengthy post-production process. Work on editing, visual effects, sound design and other technical elements is expected to begin from mid-October or November. Considering the scale of Rajamouli’s films and the global positioning of Varanasi, post-production is expected to play a major role in shaping the final cinematic experience. The director is known for spending considerable time refining action sequences and visual effects, making this stage crucial for the project.
MM Keeravani to Start Background Score Work
Oscar-winning composer MM Keeravani, a longtime collaborator of Rajamouli, is also expected to begin work on the film’s background score later this month. His music has played a key role in several of Rajamouli’s previous blockbusters, and expectations are high for his contribution to Varanasi. With the shooting almost complete, the music and background score process will gradually become an important part of the film’s final production phase.
Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Join Mahesh Babu
Mahesh Babu leads the film, while Priyanka Chopra plays the female lead, adding to the project’s international appeal. Prithviraj Sukumaran will reportedly appear as the main antagonist, setting up a major face-off with Mahesh Babu’s character. With a star-studded cast, a global-scale vision and Rajamouli directing the project, Varanasi remains one of the most anticipated Indian films currently in production. The film is scheduled to release in theatres worldwide on April 7, 2027.
