Exclusive Interview: Karthi’s Annagaru Delayed Due to Legal Issues – Film Release Blocked by Court

Why was Annagaru (Va Vathiyar) postponed at the last moment?
Producer Gnanvel Raja: "The release was blocked by the Madras High Court due to unpaid dues. The court ruled that the film couldn’t be released until the debt owed to financier Arjunlal Sunderdas is cleared. Only once the dues are fully repaid will the film be allowed for release on any platform."

How much does the producer owe the financier?
Producer Gnanvel Raja: "The outstanding amount is Rs. 21.78 crore. Originally, Studio Green borrowed Rs. 10.35 crore in 2014, and due to accumulated interest, the debt grew to this amount."

Did the court provide any opportunities for the producer to settle the debt?
Producer Gnanvel Raja: "Yes, the court provided seven chances to repay the loan over several hearings. However, despite multiple opportunities, the dues were not paid, leading the court to impose the release block."

What was the response from the producer’s legal team in court?
Producer Gnanvel Raja: "My lawyer offered to pay Rs. 3.75 crore within 24 hours and submit documents of movable assets to cover the remaining balance. Despite this, the court felt that enough chances had been given, and they maintained the stay on the film's release."

When is Annagaru expected to release now?
Producer Gnanvel Raja: "At the moment, there is no confirmed release date. The film will only be released once the outstanding dues are fully cleared. An official announcement will be made once everything is settled."

Are both the Tamil and Telugu versions affected by this?
Producer Gnanvel Raja: "Yes, both the Tamil version (Va Vathiyar) and the Telugu version (Annagaru Vostaru) have been delayed. The release, which was scheduled for December 12, has been put on hold for now."

Is Annagaru the first major film facing a financial hurdle like this?
Producer Gnanvel Raja: "No, Annagaru isn’t the first. Akhanda 2, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, also faced a similar issue when Eros withheld the film’s release due to unpaid dues by the production house."
