Cross-Party Push for Karnataka’s Pending Projects

Karnataka MPs Delhi Meeting Highlights Political Unity
Bengaluru, Tuesday, July 28, 2026: The Karnataka MPs' Delhi meeting has emerged as a significant cross-party effort to raise the state’s development concerns before the Union government. Chief Minister DK Shivakumar described Monday’s interaction with Karnataka parliamentarians in New Delhi as a major success.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the meeting received a strong response from MPs belonging to different political parties. Shivakumar said the participation demonstrated that Karnataka’s leaders could set aside political differences when issues affecting the state were involved.
The Chief Minister met parliamentarians at Parliament House, while a related all-party interaction involving Karnataka MPs was held at Karnataka Bhavan. Discussions focused on projects awaiting Central approval, pending financial grants, drought conditions, and major irrigation initiatives.
MPs Asked to Pursue Pending Projects and Central Funds
A key outcome of the meeting was the agreement among MPs to jointly follow up with the Centre on Karnataka’s pending projects. Shivakumar appealed to the representatives to press for approvals, secure the release of funds, and seek urgent drought relief assistance.
Projects connected with the Upper Krishna, Mahadayi, Mekedatu, and Upper Bhadra regions were among the major matters reportedly discussed. The state also raised concerns about proposals and grants that have remained pending before different Union government departments.
Deputy Chief Minister and Revenue Minister G Parameshwara reportedly sought the release of more than ₹40,000 crore in pending grants. The demands included funds linked to the Jal Jeevan Mission, special grants recommended by the Fifteenth Finance Commission, rural infrastructure, and the Upper Bhadra project.
Karnataka Seeks Support for Drought Relief
The discussions also highlighted Karnataka’s drought and water-management challenges. Shivakumar had earlier said that MPs would be briefed about drought conditions, water disputes, and river projects involving the Cauvery, Mahadayi, Mekedatu, and Krishna systems.
The government hopes that coordinated representation by MPs across party lines will strengthen Karnataka’s case before the Centre. Shivakumar maintained that political affiliations should not prevent elected representatives from working together on matters involving farmers, drinking water, infrastructure, and economic development.
Union Ministers and Opposition MPs Attend
Union Ministers Pralhad Joshi, Shobha Karandlaje, and V Somanna attended, along with MPs including Basavaraj Bommai, Jagadish Shettar, Tejasvi Surya, Sudha Murty, Jairam Ramesh, and several other Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members.
The CMO said several participants appreciated the scale and inclusive nature of the interaction. Some Union ministers and parliamentarians who could not attend reportedly informed the organisers in advance because of earlier commitments.
The meeting’s practical impact will depend on subsequent action by the MPs and the Union government. However, the broad participation has allowed Karnataka to present its pending development, funding, and drought-related demands through a more coordinated political platform.
