Over 16 Lakh Employees And Pensioners To Benefit

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has announced a 2% Dearness Allowance hike for government employees, teachers, and pensioners, increasing the DA from 58% to 60% with effect from January 1, 2026. The Tamil Nadu DA hike 2026 is expected to benefit nearly 16 lakh employees and pensioners across the state while adding an estimated ₹1,230 crore burden to the state exchequer.

The decision was taken after a Tamil Nadu finance department review meeting held at the Secretariat to assess the state’s financial position and welfare spending. Officials said the Tamil Nadu employee DA revision aligns the state’s allowance structure with the Centre’s latest revision for government staff. Beneficiaries are also likely to receive DA arrears for the pending months from January 2026.

Vijay Government Focuses On Welfare Measures

The CM Vijay's salary allowance increase announcement comes amid rising inflation and living costs. Employee unions welcomed the Tamil Nadu pensioners' DA update, stating the move would provide much-needed financial relief to state workers and retired staff. Teachers’ associations also appreciated the Tamil Nadu teachers' DA increase, calling it a positive step for public sector employees.

Vijay reiterated that his administration would continue functioning as a “government of common people” by implementing welfare-focused policies based on social justice and equal opportunity. The government also confirmed continued support for welfare schemes, including the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai programme, which currently benefits around 1.31 crore women in the state.
