Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again appealed to citizens to adopt austerity measures as tensions continue to rise in West Asia, raising concerns about global economic stability and supply disruptions. Speaking at an event in Vadodara on May 11, the Prime Minister urged people to reduce fuel consumption, postpone non-essential spending, and support measures aimed at easing pressure on the Indian economy.
PM Modi said the world has been facing continuous instability since the COVID-19 pandemic, and the ongoing conflict in West Asia has further increased economic uncertainty. He stressed the need for citizens to cooperate by cutting unnecessary fuel use and depending more on public transport systems. The Prime Minister encouraged people to use metro services, electric buses and carpooling wherever possible to help reduce petrol and diesel consumption.
The Prime Minister also advised organisations and educational institutions to expand the use of work-from-home practices and online classes whenever possible. According to him, reducing unnecessary travel and fuel consumption can help India manage the impact of global disruptions more effectively during challenging economic conditions.
In addition, PM Modi appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary foreign exchange spending and postpone gold purchases for the time being. His remarks come amid growing concerns over rising crude oil prices and global market instability linked to the geopolitical situation in West Asia. The government’s repeated appeal reflects ongoing efforts to maintain economic stability and reduce pressure on essential imports during uncertain global conditions.
