IPL Alert: 240 CCTV Cameras Disabled at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium Ahead of Match

A major security scare was reported during an IPL 2026 clash earlier this week between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Gujarat Titans at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, after nearly 240 CCTV camera feeds were reportedly disrupted or disabled during the match.

The incident has raised serious concerns about surveillance and safety at one of the league’s busiest venues. According to police, two staff members linked to a subcontractor allegedly gained unauthorised access to the stadium’s CCTV control room by bypassing security protocols using a deactivated access card.

Police said the individuals may have tampered with NVR and fibre connections, disrupting live monitoring across several critical areas, including entry gates, concourses, and seating sections. The breach reportedly left large parts of the stadium without real-time surveillance during the game.

Despite the disruption, officials acted swiftly to activate backup systems and ensure the match continued without any untoward incidents. Authorities confirmed that alternative monitoring arrangements were put in place shortly after the issue was detected.

A case has been registered, and an investigation is currently underway to determine the motive behind the breach and assess the full extent of the security lapse.

The incident has added to growing concerns over operational management at the venue, especially following a recent ticket black-marketing case reported at the same stadium. While the match proceeded smoothly, the CCTV disruption has raised important questions about security preparedness during high-profile sporting events.
