Kerala High Court Issues Notice To The Kerala Story 2 Producer Over Censor Certification Challenge
The Kerala High Court has issued an urgent notice to the producer of The Kerala Story 2 after a petition challenged the film’s censor certification and objected to the use of the word “Kerala” in the movie title.
Producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah has been asked to respond to the notice as the court examines the objections raised against the film. The petition claims that the movie presents the state in a negative manner and could affect public harmony.
Petition Challenges Film Certification And Title
According to the plea, the film’s title and storyline allegedly portray Kerala in a poor light. The petitioner has argued that the use of the state’s name in the title may create a misleading impression about the region and its people.
The petition also questions the censor certification granted to the film. The matter has now reached the Kerala High Court, where further arguments are expected during the final hearing.
Court Questions Timing Of The Petition
Justice P.V. Kunhikrishnan reportedly raised questions about the timing of the petition, as the movie had already been released in theatres in February and had been watched by a large number of people.
However, the petitioner’s advocate argued that the issue remains important because the film is expected to reach a wider audience through digital and television platforms. The plea states that the upcoming OTT and TV release could renew public attention around the film and its content.
CBFC Raises Question On Private Challenge
The Central Board of Film Certification also raised a question before the court on whether a private citizen can challenge how a state is depicted in a film. The court is expected to consider this issue in detail during the final hearing.
The outcome of the case will depend on the responses submitted by the film’s producer and the certification board.
Earlier Stay Was Overturned
The film had earlier faced an interim stay on its release. However, a larger bench later overturned that order, allowing the film to move forward with its theatrical release.
The latest legal challenge has now brought the film back into focus, especially ahead of its wider digital and television availability.
