India Plans New Space Manufacturing Hubs In Gujarat And Tamil Nadu
Space Hubs To Support Private Firms
India is set to strengthen its private space industry with new common technical facilities in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. The Department of Space has approved these state-backed hubs to help startups and large companies build, test, and validate rockets, satellites, and payload systems without investing heavily in separate labs. The project will be driven through IN-SPACe and will give private firms access to advanced testing infrastructure on a shared, plug-and-play basis.
Khoraj And Thoothukudi In Focus
The Space Manufacturing Park at Khoraj near Ahmedabad will focus on spacecraft, payload systems, and satellite component validation. In Tamil Nadu, the Space Vehicles Cluster at Thoothukudi will support launch vehicle manufacturing, integration, and testing. The Rs 100 crore facility will offer vibration, shock, thermal vacuum, and propulsion validation systems. Its location near the upcoming Kulasekharapatnam small launch complex gives it strategic importance for rocket development. Around 10 other states have also shown interest in similar clusters.
