INDIA Bloc Plans Joint Presser, Rahul Gandhi to Host Tea Meet

INDIA bloc leaders are expected to hold a joint press conference on Tuesday, October 13, followed by a tea meeting hosted by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi at his New Delhi residence.

The gathering comes a day after opposition leaders, activists and civil society members participated in a “March for Democracy” in the national capital. Senior leaders subsequently approached the Supreme Court with a joint petition concerning the Special Intensive Revision, or SIR, of electoral rolls and alleged election irregularities. The press conference is expected to provide a platform for the opposition to present its position following the march.

Rahul Gandhi Invites MPs and Civil Society Members for Tea

Gandhi has invited INDIA bloc MPs, civil society representatives and members of student organisations to his residence at 5, Sunehri Bagh Road. The invitation, sent on Monday, scheduled the gathering for 4:00 PM on Tuesday.

Discussions could include a coordinated strategy for further protests over allegations described by opposition parties as “vote chori,” or vote theft. Leaders are also expected to discuss their demand for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.

These allegations remain claims made by the opposition and should not be treated as established findings. Any decisions on future demonstrations or joint political action would depend on what participants announce after the meeting.

Opposition Petition Follows March for Democracy

Monday’s march brought together prominent opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Akhilesh Yadav, Mamata Banerjee, D. Raja, M. A. Baby, Tejashwi Yadav and Supriya Sule.

Participants gathered around Connaught Place before proceeding along a heavily barricaded route. Protesters crossed one barricade on Bhagwan Dass Road but were stopped at another. Senior INDIA bloc leaders later went to the Supreme Court to submit their petition.

The petition names the Election Commission of India, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi as parties. Filing a petition does not establish the validity of its allegations, which remain subject to judicial consideration.

The report also states that the Chief Justice of India declined a request to meet the Leaders of the Opposition because the matter was sub judice. Tuesday’s planned press conference and tea gathering are expected to outline the bloc’s next political steps.
