Gujarat Family Of Three Killed In Ohio Motel Fire, Cause Under Probe

A family of three from Gujarat’s Kheda district died after a fire broke out at the Econo Lodge motel in Wooster, Ohio, in the United States. The victims have been identified as Hiteshbhai Suthar, his wife Hinaben Suthar, and their 20-year-old daughter Ishani Suthar.

The incident took place around 1:30 a.m. local time on July 1, 2026. Officials said the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Fire Breaks Out At Ohio Motel

According to reports, the blaze started in a detached section of the Econo Lodge motel, where the family was living and working. When firefighters reached the spot, thick smoke and flames were seen coming from the motel building.

Emergency teams cleared other rooms and carried out rescue efforts. However, the three family members were trapped inside and could not be saved despite repeated attempts by firefighters.

Family Reportedly Took Shelter In Bathroom

Reports said the family contacted the motel front desk after they were unable to escape. They were reportedly advised to take shelter in the bathroom and turn on the water for safety.

The family then locked themselves inside the bathroom in an attempt to protect themselves from the fire and smoke. However, due to heavy smoke and the intensity of the blaze, all three are believed to have died of suspected suffocation before rescuers could reach them.

Nadiad Family In Shock

The family originally hailed from Nadiad in Gujarat’s Kheda district and had moved to the United States around two years ago in search of work and a better future.

The news has left relatives, friends, and community members in Gujarat deeply shocked. Many are finding it difficult to accept that the family lost their lives so suddenly in a tragic fire accident far from home.

Fire Safety Probe Continues

Officials said no other motel guests were killed in the incident, though one firefighter reportedly suffered minor injuries during the rescue operation.

Authorities are now investigating the cause of the fire and whether any safety issues contributed to the tragedy. The incident has also raised fresh concerns about fire safety systems, emergency exits, and evacuation support at lodging facilities where workers and their families reside on the premises.
