Assam Results 2026: BJP Crosses 100 Seats, Gogoi Loses Jorhat

Counting for the Assam Assembly Election Results 2026 is underway, with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) heading towards a decisive victory in the state.

Early trends show the NDA crossing the 100-seat mark in the 126-member Assembly, indicating a strong mandate for the ruling alliance. The BJP, along with its allies Asom Gana Parishad and Bodo Peoples' Front, has maintained a clear lead across multiple constituencies.

A major highlight of the results is the defeat of Gaurav Gogoi from the Jorhat constituency. BJP candidate Hitendranath Goswami secured victory with a margin of over 23,000 votes, marking a significant setback for the Congress in a key battleground.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is leading comfortably from his traditional stronghold, Jalukbari, reinforcing the BJP’s dominant position in the state. Several ministers from the outgoing government are also ahead in their respective constituencies.

The counting process began at 8 am across 40 counting centres in 35 districts, covering all 126 Assembly constituencies. A total of 722 candidates are in the fray, making this one of the most competitive elections in recent years.

The state witnessed a high voter turnout of 85.91 percent during polling, with a record participation of women voters at 86.5 percent, reflecting strong public engagement.

With trends heavily favouring the BJP-led alliance, the results are set to shape Assam’s political landscape for the coming term, as the party looks poised to return to power with a massive mandate.
