Kanimozhi Seeks Separate Lok Sabha Seating for DMK MPs After Congress Split

The fallout between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Indian National Congress has now reached Parliament, with the DMK formally seeking a separate seating arrangement for its MPs in the Lok Sabha following the collapse of their long-standing alliance.

DMK parliamentary party leader Kanimozhi Karunanidhi wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla requesting separate benches, stating that the changed political circumstances made it inappropriate for DMK MPs to continue sharing space with Congress members in the House.

The development comes after Congress ended its alliance with the DMK in Tamil Nadu and extended support to Vijay and the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The shift has triggered sharp reactions from DMK leaders, who accused Congress of betraying a long-standing partnership.

The split is being seen as a setback for the INDIA alliance at the national level, with the DMK being one of its key constituents in Parliament. Political observers say the widening rift could affect opposition coordination both inside and outside the Lok Sabha in the coming months.

Meanwhile, Akhilesh Yadav, chief of the Samajwadi Party, signalled support for the DMK through a social media message emphasising opposition unity during politically challenging times.
