A luxury superyacht valued at over $500 million and linked to Russian billionaire and Kremlin aide Alexey Mordashov has passed through the Strait of Hormuz, drawing global attention. The rare movement comes at a time when vessel traffic through the critical shipping route has dropped sharply amid heightened geopolitical tensions.
Shipping data shows the 465-foot yacht Nord departed from Dubai, transited the Strait of Hormuz, and later reached Muscat. The journey is considered unusual, as maritime movement in the region has been significantly curtailed due to the ongoing tensions involving the United States and Iran.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most vital oil transit routes, typically carrying a substantial portion of global crude supply. In recent days, however, security concerns have led to a noticeable decline in daily ship traffic compared to normal levels.
Although Mordashov is not officially listed as the owner, records suggest the yacht is tied to a company associated with his family. The vessel ranks among the largest superyachts globally, featuring multiple luxury suites, a helipad, and advanced onboard facilities.
The passage of such a high-profile yacht through a sensitive maritime corridor has raised questions about navigation and security protocols. The incident underscores the complexities of global shipping movements during periods of geopolitical uncertainty.
