Fuel Prices Rise For Second Time In Five Days
Fuel Prices Rise Again
Petrol and diesel prices have gone up again across major Indian cities, marking the second fuel price hike within five days. The latest revision was made after oil companies increased retail fuel rates on Monday, adding more pressure on consumers already facing rising transport and household expenses.
In New Delhi, petrol price increased by 87 paise to ₹98.64 per litre, while diesel rose by 91 paise to ₹91.58 per litre. Kolkata recorded the sharpest petrol increase among major metros, with petrol rising by 96 paise to ₹109.70 per litre. Diesel in Kolkata is now priced at ₹96.07 per litre.
Crude Oil Pressure Impacts Rates
In Chennai, petrol became costlier by 82 paise and reached ₹104.49 per litre, while diesel rose by 86 paise to ₹96.11 per litre. The latest increase comes soon after a nationwide ₹3-per-litre hike announced last Friday.
The rise in domestic fuel prices is mainly linked to increasing global crude oil prices amid tensions in West Asia. Brent crude was trading above $111 per barrel, while WTI crossed $107. Since India imports nearly 85% of its crude oil needs, any sharp movement in global prices directly affects local petrol and diesel rates.
Higher fuel prices may also increase transport charges, logistics costs, food prices, and household budgets in the coming days. Much will depend on global crude prices and whether tensions in West Asia ease soon.
