19-Month-Old Boy Allegedly Loses Vision After Wrong Drops Given at Madhya Pradesh Hospital
A 19-month-old boy has allegedly lost vision in both eyes after a suspected medical error at a civil hospital in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district. The child’s family has accused the attending doctor of negligence, claiming that nasal drops were mistakenly administered into the boy’s eyes during treatment. Health authorities have ordered an enquiry into the matter.
Family Alleges Serious Medical Error
According to the complaint filed by the child’s father, Indraj Vishwakarma, the incident took place on May 29, 2026, at the Civil Hospital in Banda. He had taken his son, Vinay Vishwakarma, to the hospital after the child developed cold symptoms and redness in his eyes.
After an OPD slip was prepared, the child was examined by an on-duty government doctor. The father alleged that during the treatment, the doctor put saline nasal drops into the child’s eyes. Other medicines, including paracetamol syrup, an injection, and additional medication, were also reportedly prescribed.
Child’s Condition Worsened After Treatment
The family claimed that the child’s condition deteriorated within a few hours of receiving treatment. They remained at the hospital for several hours, but there was allegedly no improvement. The boy was later referred to the district hospital in Sagar and then advised to undergo advanced treatment at a higher medical centre.
The child was subsequently taken to AIIMS Bhopal, where specialists examined him. According to the father, doctors informed the family that the child had suffered permanent vision loss, allegedly due to incorrect treatment or medical negligence.
Complaint Filed, Enquiry Ordered
Following the incident, the father lodged a complaint at the Banda police station and demanded strict action against the doctor and other staff members found responsible. He stated that he could identify the doctor by face but did not know the doctor’s name.
Block Medical Officer Yogendra Khatik said the Chief Medical and Health Officer has formed a committee to investigate the allegations. Officials said further action will depend on the findings of the enquiry.
Family Demands Fair Investigation
The family has demanded a fair and impartial probe into the incident, along with strict punishment for anyone found guilty. The case has raised serious concerns over patient safety, medical supervision, and treatment protocols in public hospitals, especially in cases involving young children.
