Chennai | May 7, 2026: Vijay met Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar for the second consecutive day on Wednesday as efforts to form the government gathered pace. The meeting at Lok Bhavan lasted over 40 minutes, fuelling fresh speculation over the next steps in the government formation process.
The meeting comes after the Indian National Congress formally extended support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Vijay had earlier submitted letters of support from 113 MLAs, including Congress legislators, as the party continues its push to reach the majority mark in the 234-member Assembly.
Several parties, including the Communist Party of India (CPI), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), have urged the Governor to invite Vijay to form the government, arguing that TVK, as the single-largest party with 108 seats, should be allowed to prove its majority on the Assembly floor.
Meanwhile, political activity has intensified across the state, with reports of AIADMK MLAs being shifted to resorts in Puducherry adding to the unfolding drama. Party leaders, however, have downplayed speculation surrounding alliance negotiations.
M. K. Stalin said that if Vijay forms the government, the opposition would not create obstacles for six months. Despite expectations among supporters in Chennai, no official announcement was made, leaving the government formation process still uncertain as attention turns to the Governor’s next move.
