The Nandamuri Basava Tarakam NTR Charitable Trust was inaugurated in Hyderabad on Smt. Basava Tarakam’s centenary birth anniversary. The organisation will support healthcare, education and community welfare while continuing NTR’s legacy of public service.
Trust Launched on Basava Tarakam’s Centenary
The Nandamuri family formally inaugurated the Nandamuri Basava Tarakam NTR Charitable Trust to mark the 100th birth anniversary of Smt. Nandamuri Basava Tarakam, wife of legendary actor and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao. The inaugural programme was held near the Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital in Hyderabad. Family members paid floral tributes to Basava Tarakam and remembered her lifelong contribution to the family. An Annadanam programme was organised as the Trust’s first major service initiative, offering free meals to members of the community.
Nandamuri Family Members to Lead the Trust
The Trust will be headed by Nandamuri Mohana Krishna as Chairman, while Nandamuri Mohana Roopa will serve as Managing Trustee. Nandamuri Seemanthini and Tummala Prasanna Kumar have been appointed as Trustees. Speaking at the event, Mohana Krishna said the family felt honoured to establish the organisation in their mother’s name. He recalled that while NTR dedicated his life to cinema, politics and public service, Basava Tarakam managed the family with love, sacrifice and responsibility. He said her selfless contribution could never be fully repaid and described the Trust as a tribute to her memory.
The organisation began its charitable journey by distributing fruits to elderly women at Grandma Home and conducting the Annadanam programme. Mohana Krishna said the Trust would gradually expand its work to identify people in genuine need and provide meaningful assistance. Its future activities will focus on helping underprivileged communities through healthcare support, educational opportunities and other welfare initiatives.
Focus on Education, Healthcare and Welfare
Managing Trustee Nandamuri Mohana Roopa said the Trust honours both Basava Tarakam’s sacrifice and NTR’s commitment to society. She noted that Basava Tarakam provided constant support to NTR while raising the family during his demanding career in cinema and public life. Mohana Roopa announced that the Trust plans to provide educational scholarships, healthcare assistance and welfare programmes for disadvantaged families. She also sought public support to make these initiatives more effective and accessible.
Carrying Forward NTR’s Public-Service Legacy
Trustee Nandamuri Seemanthini expressed happiness that the organisation began its journey with an Annadanam programme on the centenary occasion. Tummala Prasanna Kumar highlighted Basava Tarakam’s role in instilling discipline and values in the Nandamuri family while managing its responsibilities. He also recalled NTR’s lifelong efforts to uplift disadvantaged people. The Trust aims to carry forward those ideals through compassion-driven programmes in education, healthcare and community welfare, ensuring that the legacy of Basava Tarakam and NTR continues to serve society.
