Goa is set for unstable weather on June 2 and 3 as IMD issued a yellow alert, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds while monsoon conditions strengthen near Kerala.
Goa Under Yellow Alert For June 2-3
The India Meteorological Department, Panaji, has issued a yellow alert for Goa on June 2 and June 3. The warning comes as conditions are becoming favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon over parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and the Arabian Sea.
Thunderstorms And Gusty Winds Likely
According to the weather alert, isolated places in Goa may witness thunderstorms along with lightning and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph. Rainfall is expected to remain mostly light to moderate, but residents should remain cautious during afternoon and night hours when thunderstorm activity is more likely.
Rain Activity Picks Up After Lull
The alert follows a short break in pre-monsoon activity across the state. Parts of Goa saw limited rainfall in recent days, while hot and humid conditions continued. With monsoon winds strengthening near the Arabian Sea, cloudy skies and scattered showers may return across North and South Goa.
What Residents Should Keep In Mind
People travelling or working outdoors should avoid standing near trees, electric poles or open areas during lightning. Two-wheeler riders and commuters should also watch for sudden rain, slippery roads and reduced visibility. Officials are expected to continue monitoring the situation as the monsoon advances towards the west coast.
