Congress vs RSS: Hosabale’s Remarks on Pakistan Trigger Fresh Controversy

Why Congress Criticised RSS Leader Hosabale Over Pakistan Talks Remarks

A fresh political debate has erupted after RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale said that India should always remain open to dialogue with Pakistan despite ongoing tensions and repeated terror attacks. His remarks triggered criticism from the Congress party, which accused the RSS of sending mixed signals on national security and India’s approach towards Pakistan.

What Did Hosabale Say?

During a recent interview, Hosabale stated that India must continue maintaining diplomatic channels, trade links and communication with Pakistan even while taking a strong stand against terrorism. He referred to past terror attacks such as Pulwama and 26/11 and stressed that India should respond firmly to threats while still keeping a “window for dialogue” open.

Hosabale also recalled former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s diplomatic efforts with Pakistan, including the Lahore bus initiative, saying engagement had always been part of India’s broader strategy.

Why Did Congress Attack the RSS?

Congress leaders strongly objected to the remarks and questioned why the RSS was discussing dialogue with Pakistan at a time when tensions remain high after recent terror incidents and Operation Sindoor. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took a swipe at the RSS leadership. At the same time, MP Manish Tewari questioned whether there had been any meaningful change in Pakistan’s stand on terrorism to justify renewed talks.

Naravane Supports Track-2 Diplomacy

Former Army chief General M.M. Naravane also entered the debate by supporting “people-to-people diplomacy” and informal engagement between citizens of both countries. He clarified that supporting dialogue does not mean compromising on national security, adding that India should continue maintaining peace while remaining prepared to act strongly against terrorism if required.
