CM Vijay Wins Tamil Nadu Assembly Trust Vote With Support Of 144 MLAs
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay comfortably won the trust vote in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly after securing the support of 144 MLAs during the confidence motion. The floor test marked a major political moment for the newly formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government.
The trust vote took place amid intense political drama, with the DMK staging a walkout from the Assembly during the debate. With the opposition absent during voting, the TVK government secured a smooth victory with support from Congress, CPI, CPI(M), VCK, IUML, and sections of the AIADMK.
A major highlight of the proceedings was the visible split within the AIADMK. While the faction led by Edappadi K Palaniswami opposed the motion, several rebel MLAs reportedly backed Vijay during the vote. Reports suggested that nearly 25 AIADMK legislators supported the government, intensifying discussions over the party’s growing internal divisions.
During the Assembly debate, Vijay responded to allegations of horse-trading by stating that his government would function with “horse speed” and not through political poaching. He also assured the House that his administration would remain secular and continue welfare-oriented governance in the state.
The Assembly session also witnessed sharp exchanges between Vijay and DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin over the changing political situation in Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, parties supporting the TVK government described the trust vote victory as a strong mandate for political change and stable governance.
The successful floor test is being viewed as a major milestone for Vijay’s government as it begins its first term in office amid rapidly shifting political equations in Tamil Nadu.
