Putin Says Pressure On Modi Won’t Work As India-Russia Ties Stay Firm

Putin Backs Modi Over US Pressure, Says India Will Follow Its Own Interests

Russian President Vladimir Putin said outside pressure on Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not change India’s independent foreign policy choices.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has strongly backed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying attempts to pressure India over its cooperation with Russia are unlikely to work.

Speaking during an interaction with global news agency heads in St Petersburg, Putin said India is a reliable partner and that Moscow does not see New Delhi’s growing cooperation with the United States as a threat to India-Russia ties.

Putin Backs India’s Independent Stand

Putin said pressure on Modi would be harmful for bilateral and international relations. His remarks come at a time when India’s continued engagement with Russia in areas like energy, trade, and defence remains under global attention.

The Russian President said India acts according to its own national interests and will not easily change its position because of outside pressure.

Trade Target Adds Bigger Angle

Putin also expressed confidence that India-Russia trade could touch $100 billion in the coming years. His comments signal that Moscow wants to keep expanding economic and strategic ties with New Delhi despite India’s closer engagement with the US.

The remarks may gain attention because they highlight India’s balancing act between major global powers while protecting its own foreign policy space.
