The Mammootty Dhanush National Award celebration brought a memorable moment to the sets of their upcoming Tamil film OM. The two actors joined director Rajkumar Periasamy, editor R Kalaivanan, and members of the film crew for a small cake-cutting ceremony.

Pictures from the celebration showed Mammootty and Dhanush standing alongside Periasamy and Kalaivanan as they marked their success at the 72nd National Film Awards. Mammootty shared the photographs on social media on July 19, thanking fans and well-wishers for their support.

He described the gathering as a small celebration involving the four winners and added that he was “grateful for all the love and wishes.”

The celebration was especially notable because all four leading members of the OM team received recognition at the latest National Film Awards.

Mammootty received the Best Actor award for his commanding performance in the Malayalam film Bramayugam. He shared the honour with Kartik Aaryan, who was recognised for Chandu Champion. The latest recognition marked Mammootty’s fourth National Film Award in the acting category.

Dhanush earned two honours connected to his work in Tamil cinema. His directorial venture Raayan was selected as the Best Tamil Film, while his performance in Captain Miller earned a Special Mention in acting.

Reacting to the recognition, Dhanush said receiving an award for directing Raayan represented a different milestone in his artistic journey. Although he had previously received National Awards as an actor, this was his first recognition as a director. He described that first achievement as unforgettable.

Amaran Brings Awards for Rajkumar Periasamy and Kalaivanan

Director Rajkumar Periasamy was named Best Director for Amaran. The Tamil biographical action drama also brought a National Award for R Kalaivanan, who was recognised in the Best Editing category.

Their victories meant that the ongoing OM production had four newly honoured National Award winners working together. The pictures quickly attracted attention from fans of Malayalam and Tamil cinema.

Mammootty’s son and actor Dulquer Salmaan also responded to his father’s achievement with a humorous social media post. The imagined conversation playfully referred to Mammootty winning his fourth award while telling his son that there was “no pressure.”

About OM Chapter 1

Officially titled OM – Chapter 1: Udhiram – The Blood Wood, the upcoming Tamil action-thriller is written and directed by Rajkumar Periasamy. The film brings Dhanush and Mammootty together with Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela in prominent roles.

The movie is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on October 16, 2026. It is produced by Wunderbar Films in association with RTake Studios. Sai Abhyankkar is composing the music, Ezhil Arasu is handling cinematography, and National Award winner R Kalaivanan is overseeing the editing.

The title teaser presented a forest-based action setting involving workers, police personnel, and Dhanush’s character entering a tense confrontation. However, the makers have not yet revealed complete details about the main characters or the wider storyline.

The National Award celebration has now added further attention to the project, bringing together accomplished performers and technicians ahead of its October theatrical release.
