The BTS Dynamite World Cup final performance brought K-pop energy to football’s biggest stage as the South Korean group appeared during the historic halftime show at New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19, 2026.

RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook entered the pitch in coordinated red and black outfits before performing a football-inspired version of their global hit “Dynamite.” The performance featured the group’s trademark choreography and marked another major international appearance for BTS following their return to full-group activities.

“Dynamite” was a fitting selection for the occasion. Released in 2020, the upbeat English-language track became BTS’s first song to top the Billboard Hot 100 and remains one of their most internationally recognised hits.

Madonna Opens the Historic Halftime Show

Madonna began the 11-minute musical production with a redesigned version of her hit “Music,” mixed with elements of “Disco Inferno” and “Danceteria.”

Her entrance began inside the stadium tunnels before she arrived on the field in a dune buggy driven by Brazilian football legends Ronaldo and Ronaldinho. The appearance connected the pop-focused production with two of the most celebrated players in World Cup history.

Conductor Gustavo Dudamel then led musicians from the New York Philharmonic and Venezuela’s Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra in a stadium-sized rendition of “Seven Nation Army.” Violinist Bijan Mortazavi and the Muppets’ Electric Mayhem also joined the unusual orchestral segment.

Justin Bieber Changes the Mood

Actors Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt appeared as their “Ted Lasso” characters to introduce Justin Bieber.

Bieber moved away from the high-energy style of the previous performances by playing an acoustic version of “Everything Hallelujah.” He adjusted the final portion of the song for the occasion, ending with a World Cup reference.

The calmer performance provided a musical contrast between the energetic BTS segment and the Latin and Afrobeats collaboration that followed.

Shakira and Burna Boy Perform Dai Dai

Shakira returned to the World Cup stage alongside Nigerian musician Burna Boy to perform “Dai Dai,” the official song of the 2026 tournament.

Their performance included Uganda’s Ghetto Kids and combined Shakira’s Latin-pop style with Burna Boy’s Afrobeats sound. Shakira’s appearance continued her long connection with FIFA events after previous football anthems, including “Waka Waka” and “La La La.”

The colourful performance was followed by a large ensemble finale featuring musicians, schoolchildren, and popular entertainment characters.

Coldplay and PS22 Chorus Lead We Dance Finale

The PS22 Chorus joined Coldplay, characters from Sesame Street, the Muppets, and singer Emmanuel Kelly for the debut of “We Dance,” an original song written by Coldplay for the occasion.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin curated the overall halftime production, which was organised with Global Citizen. Fireworks and a message centred on love, education, and international unity brought the show to a close.

The performance supported the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. Organisers said the initiative had raised more than $60 million for children’s education, with grants reaching community organisations across several countries.

Extended World Cup Break Creates Debate

Although the musical production lasted approximately 11 minutes, the complete halftime interval extended to around 27 minutes because workers needed additional time to install and remove equipment from the field.

The longer break attracted criticism because football’s laws traditionally limit halftime to 15 minutes. Some viewers enjoyed the Super Bowl-style presentation, while others questioned whether such a lengthy entertainment programme was suitable during a World Cup final.

Closing Ceremony Adds More Global Performers

Entertainment had started well before the match. IShowSpeed opened part of the pre-match programme, while Post Malone introduced “Chrome Heartbreaker” and later performed “Sunflower” with Swae Lee.

Robbie Williams appeared with Nicole Scherzinger and Laura Pausini, while Jennifer Hudson performed the United States national anthem. Actor Tom Cruise also addressed the crowd with a message about football bringing people from different countries together.

With BTS, Madonna, Shakira, Justin Bieber, Burna Boy, Coldplay, and several surprise guests appearing during the same event, the World Cup final became an ambitious combination of sport, music, and international entertainment.
