CM Vijay Targets DMK Over Alleged Corruption In Tamil Nadu Assembly
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay launched a sharp attack on the DMK in the Assembly on Tuesday, accusing the previous government of corruption and poor governance. His remarks triggered strong protests from DMK MLAs, who later staged a walkout during the heated session.
Vijay Accuses DMK Over TASMAC Revenue
Speaking in the Assembly, Vijay alleged that TASMAC revenues had been misused in the name of party funds during the previous regime. He said his government’s action against state-run liquor outlets was part of its wider focus on public welfare and administrative reform.
Vijay also claimed that both the DMK and AIADMK had worked politically to keep him and the TVK out of power. He said his government would not follow what he described as a style of administration based on intimidation, silence, or corruption.
Chief Minister Raises Law And Order Questions
The Chief Minister also questioned the previous government over law and order, drug abuse, and the delay in appointing a Director General of Police. He said people had repeatedly raised concerns over the absence of a DGP and claimed that the appointment was made only under the present government.
“In a democracy, questions can be raised in the Legislative Assembly. This is not a monarchy; it is a people’s government,” Vijay said, adding that public representatives should speak in a balanced and fair manner.
DMK MLAs Walk Out After Heated Exchange
The Assembly witnessed tense scenes as DMK members objected to Vijay’s remarks. The opposition MLAs walked out after the exchange intensified, turning the session into a major political flashpoint between the ruling TVK and the DMK.
In a dramatic moment after the walkout, Vijay performed a gesture associated with DMK chief M.K. Stalin, with the Speaker’s permission. The moment quickly drew attention on social media after videos from the Assembly began circulating.
