Blue Aadhaar Vs White Aadhaar: Baal Aadhaar Eligibility, Documents And Update Rules

India’s Aadhaar system has a special identity card for young children called Blue Aadhaar or Baal Aadhaar. It is issued by UIDAI for children below five years and works as an early identity document for school admission, healthcare, welfare schemes, and other official needs. Unlike the regular white Aadhaar card, Blue Aadhaar is printed in light blue colour so that it can be easily identified as a child’s Aadhaar card.

What Is Blue Aadhaar Card?

Blue Aadhaar is issued only for children under five years of age. Since fingerprints and iris details of very young children are not stable, UIDAI does not collect biometric data at this stage. Instead, the card includes the child’s photo, date of birth, Aadhaar number, address details, and linkage with either parent’s Aadhaar. Parents need the child’s birth certificate and Aadhaar card of either parent to apply for Blue Aadhaar at an Aadhaar enrolment centre.

Blue Aadhaar Vs White Aadhaar

The regular white Aadhaar card is issued for people aged five years and above and includes biometric details such as fingerprints and iris scans. Blue Aadhaar does not include these details. Parents must update the child’s Aadhaar when the child turns five, and another mandatory biometric update is required at 15 years. These updates help keep Aadhaar records correct as the child grows. The card is especially useful for parents who need valid identity proof for their child’s early documentation needs.
