The Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing has arrested three individuals in connection with the online leak of the film Jana Nayagan, marking a significant breakthrough in the high-profile piracy case.
According to officials, the main accused worked as a freelance assistant editor and allegedly gained unauthorised access to the film’s footage at an editing studio. Investigators believe he copied and compiled the material into a full version, which was later circulated across piracy networks. The arrests follow an earlier crackdown that led to multiple detentions linked to the spread of pirated content. The accused have been produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody as the investigation continues.
The leak surfaced just days before the film received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), with high-definition clips and the full movie appearing on illegal platforms. The incident has raised serious concerns within the film industry over financial losses and content security.
In response, authorities have taken down several piracy links and warned that accessing or sharing pirated content may invite legal action. The Madras High Court has also issued an interim order restricting the distribution of unauthorised versions of the film. The probe remains ongoing as officials intensify efforts to curb piracy and safeguard film content from illegal distribution.
