Jana Nayagan CBFC Clearance Still Awaited, Release Date Not Finalised
Vijay’s much-awaited film Jana Nayagan is still waiting for clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification, according to sources close to the project. The clarification comes amid reports claiming that the film had already received an A certificate with certain cuts.
A source linked to the film said the team is expecting the certification process to be completed next week. The makers are expected to announce the official release date only after receiving the final CBFC clearance.
A Certificate Reports Remain Unconfirmed
Recent reports had suggested that Jana Nayagan had been granted an A certificate by the CBFC, subject to edits. However, sources close to the film have denied that the certificate has been issued so far.
According to them, the current buzz around the film receiving an A certificate is still speculation. The team is reportedly hopeful that the clearance will come soon, after which the final theatrical release plan will be confirmed.
Possible Release Dates Under Discussion
The makers are reportedly looking at a July release window for Jana Nayagan. July 16 is said to be one of the dates under consideration, while July 23 is also being discussed as a backup option.
July 31 is another possible date, though it may be less likely, as Jason Sanjay’s directorial debut, Sigma, is also expected to be released on the same day.
Why Jana Nayagan Faced Certification Delay
Jana Nayagan’s certification process was reportedly delayed after objections were raised over certain scenes. A censor board member had reportedly flagged portions of the film, claiming they could affect public sentiment.
There were also unverified discussions that some scenes could be viewed in the context of Vijay’s political journey, as the film’s release comes close to the Tamil Nadu Assembly election season.
Following the objections, the CBFC recommended that the film be sent to its Revising Committee. The makers, KVN Productions, later approached the Madras High Court seeking directions to speed up the certification process.
Makers Await Final CBFC Decision
After a legal process that lasted for nearly a month, the producers withdrew their petition and agreed to submit the film before the Revising Committee.
As of now, Jana Nayagan has not received final censor clearance. The official release date is expected to be announced only after the CBFC process is completed.
