US Eases Visa Bond Rule For FIFA World Cup Fans From Select Countries

World Cup Fans Get Relief From US Visa Bond Rule

US Visa Bond Rule Relaxed

The Trump administration has temporarily eased a visa bond rule for certain foreign football fans travelling to the United States for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Under the revised policy, eligible fans from select countries with confirmed World Cup tickets and enrolment in FIFA’s visa facilitation system will not have to pay visa bonds of up to $15,000.

The earlier visa bond rule required some temporary visa applicants from countries with high overstay or security concerns to deposit refundable bonds of $5,000, $10,000, or $15,000. The bond was returned if travellers followed visa conditions or if the visa was rejected.

Relief For Select World Cup Visitors

The exemption is expected to benefit fans from countries covered under the bond rule, including some nations already qualified for the World Cup. The 2026 tournament will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, beginning on June 11, 2026.

Fans must have official World Cup tickets and should have opted into the FIFA Pass system by April 15 to qualify for faster visa appointment processing.

Immigration Concerns Remain

Despite the waiver, concerns remain over stricter US immigration checks, travel restrictions, social media screening, and visa delays. Tourism and hotel groups have warned that visa uncertainty may affect international travel demand during the tournament.
