A minor girl was allegedly gang-raped in a forested park area behind Delhi’s Kalkaji Temple after three men reportedly approached her and a friend while claiming to be police personnel. Delhi Police have apprehended one suspect, while efforts are underway to locate the others.
According to the complaint, the girl and her friend had visited Kalkaji Temple and later walked towards the park behind the shrine. At approximately 7:30 pm, three men estimated to be between 25 and 30 years old allegedly approached and threatened them.
The complainant alleged that one man restrained the girl’s friend while the others sexually assaulted her. The identities of the minor and her friend have been withheld to protect their privacy.
Delhi Police officials said one of the accused was apprehended following a brief exchange of fire. Further information about the circumstances of the encounter and the suspect’s identity was awaited at the time of reporting.
Police teams are conducting further investigation and searching for the remaining suspects. Investigators are also expected to examine available surveillance footage, mobile-phone records and other evidence that could help reconstruct the sequence of events. Authorities have not yet released complete information about the claims that the accused presented themselves as police officers. That allegation forms part of the complaint and remains under investigation.
The alleged assault near Kalkaji Temple came days after another case involving a minor in Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar. In that case, the girl’s body was found in an open field near Kushak Road on September 13. Delhi Police arrested four people, including three juveniles, after examining footage from more than 50 CCTV cameras and tracing a vehicle suspected of being connected to the crime.
Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Lata Gupta described the earlier incident as painful and worrying. After meeting the victim’s family, she said the commission would provide legal assistance, counselling and support during the judicial process. The latest case has renewed concerns over the safety of children and women in isolated public spaces across the national capital. Police are continuing their investigation, and the allegations against the suspects will be subject to evidence and judicial scrutiny.
