Haier India is reportedly planning a ₹7,000 crore home appliance manufacturing facility in Tirupati district, with operations targeted from 2028 and up to 21,000 jobs projected by 2032.
Haier Proposes Major Investment in Tirupati
Chinese home appliance maker Haier is preparing to expand its Indian manufacturing footprint with a proposed plant in Satyavedu mandal of Andhra Pradesh's Tirupati district. According to a report by The Economic Times, the state government has earmarked about 250 acres for the facility. The project would give Haier a production base in southern India alongside its existing factories in Pune, Maharashtra, and Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
₹7,000 Crore Investment Planned in Two Phases
The company plans to invest approximately ₹4,500 crore in the first phase and another ₹2,500 crore in the second, taking the proposed outlay to ₹7,000 crore. Initial operations are expected to begin by 2028, while the broader investment programme is planned through 2032. Once developed, the plant is expected to manufacture air conditioners, washing machines, televisions, air purifiers and kitchen appliances, increasing Haier's capacity to serve the Indian market.
Project Could Generate 21,000 Jobs
The proposal estimates that the project could support 6,000 direct jobs at the manufacturing facility and about 15,000 indirect jobs in associated businesses and services by 2032. These are projected employment opportunities rather than positions already created. The investment could also benefit local suppliers, logistics providers and other businesses serving the growing appliance manufacturing sector, subject to the project's implementation.
Strategic Location Near Sri City Industrial Hub
The proposed site lies in the Tirupati–Chennai–Nellore electronics manufacturing corridor, where road links, access to ports and existing industrial infrastructure can support production and distribution. It is close to Sri City, where LG Electronics is developing its third manufacturing plant in India. Haier's proposed investment adds to Andhra Pradesh's efforts to attract electronics and consumer durable manufacturers. If the projects progress as planned, they could strengthen regional supply chains and create more manufacturing opportunities, although lower appliance prices are not guaranteed.
