Vijay Secures Rs 15,300 Crore UK Investment for Tamil Nadu

Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay returned from London with Rs 15,300 crore in investment commitments and plans to advance Tamil Nadu’s Motor Sports City.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay returned to Chennai on Thursday after completing a six-day official visit to London focused on attracting overseas investment, strengthening trade partnerships and accelerating industrial development in the state.

According to an official release cited in the report, the visit generated fresh investment commitments and business engagements worth Rs 15,300 crore. The proposed projects are expected to create more than 10,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities across Tamil Nadu.

Vijay left for the United Kingdom on September 10 with a state delegation. The government presented Tamil Nadu as a destination for advanced manufacturing, research, renewable energy, technology services, textiles, aerospace and other high-value industries.

Vijay secures investment commitments across major sectors

New memorandums of understanding and a letter of intent were formalised in London on September 14. The agreements cover sectors including auto components, research and development, renewable energy, power-grid equipment and Global Capability Centres.

These sectors are central to Tamil Nadu’s strategy of expanding beyond traditional manufacturing while strengthening its existing automobile, electronics and engineering base. Global Capability Centres could create opportunities in technology, finance, data services, product development and specialised business operations.

However, investment commitments and MoUs represent proposed projects rather than completed investments. Their economic impact will depend on the projects obtaining approvals, securing land and infrastructure, beginning construction and entering commercial operations.

The state government is expected to monitor the proposals through Guidance Tamil Nadu and coordinate with investors to move the agreements towards implementation.

Vijay strengthens Tamil Nadu-UK trade partnerships

During the London visit, Vijay met Indian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Kumaran Periasamy on September 12. Their discussions covered investment opportunities and possible partnerships under the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement framework.

Guidance Tamil Nadu and senior state officials also held meetings with 10 leading organisations representing aerospace, defence, chemicals, logistics, construction, financial services, retail and legal services.

The engagements produced proposals extending beyond direct investment. UK retailers are expected to explore sourcing arrangements with textile manufacturers in Tamil Nadu, potentially providing the state’s apparel and textile companies with wider access to British markets.

A United Kingdom aerospace and defence delegation is expected to visit Hosur, one of Tamil Nadu’s major advanced-manufacturing centres. Another delegation connected to the Northern England Mayoral Space Authority is scheduled to visit Chennai in October.

The discussions also covered financial-services skill development, UK-Tamil Nadu trade workshops and a joint study identifying business opportunities created by the bilateral trade agreement.

Vijay advances Tamil Nadu Motor Sports City plan

Vijay used the United Kingdom visit to study facilities at the Silverstone Motor Racing Circuit as Tamil Nadu moves ahead with its proposed Motor Sports City.

The Chief Minister announced the project in the State Assembly under Rule 110 on September 3, 2026. During his Silverstone visit, he inspected race-control systems, track infrastructure, safety arrangements, operational facilities, the circuit museum and provisions for endurance racing.

The visit was intended to provide the state delegation with a clearer understanding of the infrastructure, technical standards and event-management systems required for an international-level racing facility.

Vijay also flagged off the 2026 Michelin Le Mans Cup race at Silverstone, which featured actor and racing driver Ajith Kumar. The proposed Motor Sports City could support professional racing, automotive testing, driver training, sports tourism and related engineering businesses if implemented successfully.

Vijay government targets jobs and industrial expansion

The Rs 15,300-crore announcement adds to Tamil Nadu’s wider effort to attract global companies in manufacturing and technology. The state already has a significant presence in automobiles, auto components, electronics, textiles, renewable energy and information technology.

The latest commitments could help Tamil Nadu expand research, engineering and high-skilled service operations while supporting employment in manufacturing and allied sectors. The government estimates that the agreements could produce over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs.

The London mission also sought to position Tamil Nadu as a bridge between Indian production capacity and British technology, investment and retail demand.

The next stage will involve converting the signed commitments into operational projects. Timely approvals, land availability, power supply, transport connections, skilled workers and continuous engagement with investors will determine how quickly the announced proposals begin contributing to the state’s economy.
