Ujjwala Subsidy Cap Explained
Ujjwala beneficiaries will now get subsidy support for only four LPG refills a year, as the government moves to curb misuse.
The government’s decision to reduce subsidised LPG refills under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana has brought fresh attention to household fuel costs and welfare delivery. Under the revised rule, Ujjwala beneficiaries will get subsidy support for only up to four LPG refills in a year, instead of nine earlier.
Why The Subsidy Limit Changed
Officials say the move is linked to usage data and suspected misuse of the scheme. According to government sources, many Ujjwala households use around four cylinders annually, while some subsidised cylinders were allegedly diverted for commercial use or claimed through beneficiary names. The new cap is aimed at reducing leakage and ensuring support reaches genuine domestic users.
What Beneficiaries Should Know
The change does not stop families from buying more cylinders. Beneficiaries can continue to purchase LPG refills as needed, but subsidy support will apply only to the first four refills in a year. After that, they must pay the full market price.
The government says the step is meant to make welfare delivery more targeted and sustainable. However, families that need more LPG annually may feel extra pressure if prices remain high.
