TVK Invites MDMK, VCK, IUML As Stalin Questions Tamil Nadu Govt Stability

Chennai, June 30, 2026: Tamil Nadu politics has entered a fresh phase of realignment after the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) invited key parties, including the VCK, MDMK, and IUML, for a July 1 meeting with Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay.

The invitation comes days after Vaiko-led MDMK walked out of the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance and moved closer to the TVK government. The meeting is being seen as an important step by TVK to consolidate support at a time when opposition parties are questioning the stability of the ruling coalition.

TVK Begins Fresh Alliance Outreach

According to reports, VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan has been invited for the meeting with Chief Minister Vijay. Invitations have also reportedly been sent to MDMK and IUML leaders. The outreach is significant because several of these parties had earlier contested the Assembly election as part of the DMK-led alliance before extending support to the TVK government.

The TVK government was formed with support from Congress, Left parties, VCK, and IUML after the April 23 Assembly election. Stalin has claimed that TVK won 108 seats, below the 118 required for a simple majority, and is surviving only because of support from former DMK allies.

MDMK Exit Changes Political Equations

MDMK’s exit from the DMK-led alliance has added a new dimension to Tamil Nadu politics. The party ended its nine-year association with the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance after a decision by its general council. Vaiko has moved closer to Chief Minister Vijay’s TVK, though MDMK’s two MLAs, who won on the DMK’s rising sun symbol, are expected to continue as DMK members in the Assembly.

This development has made the July 1 meeting politically important, as TVK appears to be strengthening its support base while the DMK attempts to rebuild its alliance strategy.

Stalin Warns DMK Cadres To Be Ready

DMK president M K Stalin has raised doubts over the stability of the Vijay-led government and told party workers to be prepared for a possible snap election. Speaking at a party event, Stalin said elections could come “in three months or six months” and claimed the present government was a “shaky setup.”

Stalin’s remarks indicate that the DMK may use the government’s dependence on allies as a major political issue in the coming months.

Why The Meeting Matters

The July 1 meeting could decide how firmly smaller parties stand with TVK at a time when Tamil Nadu’s political alliances are changing quickly. For TVK, the meeting is a chance to show stability and unity. For the DMK, the developments offer an opportunity to question whether the ruling side has enough independent strength to complete its full term.

With MDMK’s exit from the DMK camp and TVK’s outreach to other parties, Tamil Nadu’s coalition politics is likely to remain active in the coming weeks.
