PM Modi Reaches Evian For G7 Summit, India To Raise Global South Concerns
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Evian, France, on Tuesday to take part in the G7 Summit, marking India’s continued presence at one of the world’s most important diplomatic platforms.
After reaching Evian, PM Modi said he was looking forward to engaging with global leaders and exchanging views on major international issues. He said India remains committed to collective efforts for a more sustainable and prosperous world.
PM Modi reached Evian after landing in Geneva, Switzerland, where he was received by Swiss President Guy Parmelin. The two leaders exchanged greetings and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening India-Switzerland ties before PM Modi proceeded to Evian.
India’s Growing Role At G7
This is PM Modi’s seventh consecutive appearance at the G7 Summit and India’s 13th participation in the forum. India’s repeated invitation reflects its rising importance in global discussions on peace, security, sustainable development, economic growth and international cooperation.
For India, this year’s summit holds special importance as PM Modi is expected to highlight the concerns of the Global South. India is likely to focus on issues such as inclusive growth, climate action, technology access, energy security, and development priorities of emerging economies.
Key Working Session In Evian
French President Emmanuel Macron is scheduled to formally welcome PM Modi during the summit. The Prime Minister will also participate in a high-level working session titled “Forging New Partnerships and Rebuilding International Solidarity”.
The session will bring together leaders of G7 nations, partner countries, and senior representatives from major global financial institutions, including the World Bank and the African Development Bank. The discussion is expected to focus on stronger international partnerships and practical solutions to global challenges.
Bilateral Meetings On Sidelines
On the sidelines of the summit, PM Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
A key meeting during the visit will be PM Modi’s scheduled engagement with US President Donald Trump. The two leaders are expected to discuss ways to strengthen India-US cooperation across key sectors and exchange views on regional and global developments.
