Karnataka Creates Praja Seva Department To Improve Citizen Services
The Karnataka government has created a new Praja Seva Department by merging key citizen-service and administrative reform wings under one structure. The move is aimed at improving public grievance redressal, simplifying government procedures, and making service delivery faster across the state.
The decision was approved by the state Cabinet and formalised through a government order issued on June 24.
Three Key Wings Merged
As part of the restructuring, the government has merged the Administrative Reforms wing, the Public Grievances Division, and the Sakala Mission into the newly created department.
The Praja Seva Department will now function as the nodal agency for public grievances, administrative reforms, process simplification, and citizen-service delivery in Karnataka.
Focus On Faster Public Service Delivery
Officials said the new department will oversee important public outreach and service initiatives, including Janaspandana and Sakala.
The main objective is to ensure faster and time-bound resolution of public complaints and service requests. The move is also expected to reduce procedural delays and improve coordination between different departments.
73 Posts Sanctioned
To support the new administrative structure, the Karnataka government has sanctioned 73 posts. Officers and staff from the merged wings will be brought under one administrative setup.
The government expects the new system to improve transparency, accountability, and responsiveness in public service delivery.
Citizen-Centric Governance Push
The creation of the Praja Seva Department is being seen as a major governance reform by the Karnataka government.
By bringing grievance redressal, administrative reforms, and service delivery under one umbrella, the department aims to make interactions between citizens and government offices simpler and more efficient.
The move is expected to benefit people who depend on government services, public complaint systems, and time-bound service platforms such as Sakala.
