Latest Hindi Movie Review | Bhooth Bangla | A Haunted Ride Begins

Plot

Set in the fictional village of Mangalpur, Bhooth Bangla follows a family that unknowingly enters a cursed palace linked to a dark legend about a demon who targets newlywed brides. As strange events unfold, the story blends horror, mythology, and family secrets, with the characters trying to uncover the truth behind the supernatural curse.

Overview

Directed by Priyadarshan and starring Akshay Kumar, Bhooth Bangla aims to revive the classic horror-comedy formula. However, the film struggles to balance humor and horror, resulting in uneven storytelling and outdated comedic elements.

Performances

Akshay Kumar brings energy and comic timing, but his performance is limited by a weak script. Rajpal Yadav and Paresh Rawal deliver familiar slapstick humor that feels repetitive. Tabu performs well but is underutilized, while Wamiqa Gabbi shows potential though her role lacks depth. Asrani adds some energy but cannot elevate the narrative.

Technical Aspects

The film features a decent haunted mansion setup with traditional visuals, but the execution lacks finesse. The horror elements feel staged rather than immersive, reducing the overall impact.

Music

The music is largely forgettable, with only a track or two making a mild impression. The background score is overly loud and often replaces genuine suspense instead of enhancing it.

Editing

Editing is uneven and stretched, especially in the second half. Excessive explanations and flashbacks slow down the narrative, affecting overall pacing.

Positives

  • Energetic presence of Akshay Kumar
  • Interesting folklore-based concept
  • A few entertaining comic moments
  • Decent production design

Negatives

  • Outdated and forced humor
  • Weak and predictable screenplay
  • Over-explained storyline and mythology
  • Slow pacing, particularly in the second half
  • Underutilized supporting cast
  • Lack of genuine horror or suspense

Analysis

Bhooth Bangla starts with a promising premise but fails to deliver a cohesive experience. The film struggles with an identity crisis, unable to balance horror and comedy effectively. Instead of building tension, it relies heavily on loud sound design and exaggerated humor. The narrative becomes tedious due to over-explanation, ultimately making the film feel outdated and less engaging.

Bottomline: Missed potential
