Agadha Review: Kamakshi Bhaskarla Leads a Chilling Horror Thriller

Agadha Review: Kamakshi Bhaskarla Leads a Chilling Horror Thriller

Plot

Mahadevi, played by Kamakshi Bhaskarla, has been connected to a village goddess since childhood and is known for confronting supernatural forces. Her life takes a darker turn when she visits her uncle’s family after a series of mysterious deaths. Mahima, played by Ulka Gupta, had earlier entered a mysterious forest cave with Simha and a friend, only for terrifying events to follow. After Mahima’s death, strange incidents continue inside the family home. Mahadevi soon realises that a powerful negative force called Agadha is targeting the family. The rest of the story follows her attempt to uncover the truth behind the cave, Simha’s fate, Agadha’s origins and the supernatural force threatening everyone.

Performances

Kamakshi Bhaskarla is the film’s strongest performer and carries the story with a controlled and convincing portrayal of Mahadevi. Ulka Gupta performs well as Mahima, especially in scenes involving fear and emotional distress. Shravan Reddy makes an impression in a role with darker shades, and the twist connected to his character adds interest. Vanitha Vijayakumar also performs effectively in a distinctive role. Bhanu Chander, Viva Raghav, Gangavva and the supporting cast contribute adequately within their limited screen time.

Technical Aspects

The film scores well visually. Nani Chamidisetty’s cinematography gives the forest, cave and ritual sequences a rich and atmospheric look. The art department adds strong production design, while the visual effects and CG work are comparatively polished. The production values are clearly visible on screen and give the film a grander appearance than its story sometimes supports.

Music

Rakesh Venkatapuram’s background score has several fresh and effective portions, particularly during supernatural scenes. However, the sound design and background music do not consistently create the intensity expected from a horror thriller. Some sequences lose impact because the score does not rise enough with the tension.

Editing

Junaid Siddiqui’s editing is one of the weaker areas. The film feels stretched despite having a relatively simple core story. Several scenes take too long to move forward, and the absence of sharper transitions makes the narrative feel slow. A tighter cut could have significantly improved the suspense and overall pacing.

Positives

  • Kamakshi Bhaskarla’s strong lead performance
  • Atmospheric cave and forest sequences
  • Good cinematography
  • Strong production design
  • Quality CG and visual effects
  • Effective supernatural concept
  • A few interesting twists
  • Engaging climax portions

Negatives

  • Slow pacing
  • Thin storyline stretched too far
  • Limited high points
  • Few genuinely scary moments
  • Weak logical connection in parts
  • Uneven background score
  • Action scenes lack impact
  • Screenplay lacks strong twists and turns

Analysis

MS Raju deserves credit for attempting a serious divine-horror thriller instead of relying on comedy, but the execution remains inconsistent. The idea of a powerful negative force absorbing dead spirits and challenging divine power has potential, and some forest rituals, cave sequences and supernatural confrontations work well. The film is at its best when it stays focused on mystery and atmosphere.

The problem lies in the screenplay. The story feels too small for the runtime, and many sequences appear to exist without adding enough tension or progression. There are not enough major twists, scares or dramatic highs to sustain a horror thriller throughout. Even so, Kamakshi Bhaskarla’s performance and the film’s visual presentation prevent it from becoming completely dull. Viewers who enjoy divine horror and supernatural thrillers may still find parts of Agadha engaging.

Bottomline: Divine Mystery
