Latest Telugu Movie Review | Raakaasa

Plot:

Eera Babu aka Veeru returns from the USA to his village with plans to marry his childhood love. However, things take an unexpected turn when he learns she is set to marry someone else. Heartbroken and intoxicated, he unknowingly spends a night near a mysterious, abandoned fort believed to be haunted. As strange events unfold, Veeru gets drawn into uncovering the secrets surrounding the fort, its past, and the entity connected to it.

Overview:

Raakaasa is a fantasy comedy entertainer that blends humor with supernatural elements. Directed by Manasa Sharma, the film attempts to combine village folklore, mystery, and lighthearted comedy, but largely follows a familiar template seen in many films before. While it promises a fresh setting, the execution leans toward conventional storytelling.

Performances:

Sangeeth Sobhan carries the film with his natural comic timing and energetic performance. His expressions and ease in humorous scenes stand out, especially in the second half. Nayan Sarika and Raadhya have limited scope and deliver average performances. Getup Srinu and Vennela Kishore provide a few laughs despite over-the-top writing. Senior actors like Tanikella Bharani and Ashish Vidyarthi add some weight, though their roles are not fully explored.

Technical Aspects:

The film has decent technical backing. The fort set design and art direction are impressive and add authenticity to the story’s setting. Cinematography, especially in the second half, enhances the adventurous tone. Production values are good considering the scale, but the overall impact is affected by weak storytelling.

Music:

Anudeep Dev’s music is a major drawback. The songs fail to make any impression, and the background score often feels excessively loud, which disrupts the viewing experience instead of enhancing it.

Editing:

Editing by Anwar Ali is satisfactory, maintaining a crisp runtime. However, tighter editing in the first half could have improved engagement and pacing.

Positives:

  • Sangeeth Sobhan’s performance and comedy timing
  • A few entertaining moments in the second half
  • Well-designed fort set and production design
  • Decent cinematography

Negatives:

  • Routine and predictable storyline
  • Weak and slow first half
  • Loud and distracting background score
  • Disappointing climax
  • Lack of freshness in writing

Analysis:

Raakaasa had the potential to deliver a fun fantasy-comedy experience, but it falls into the trap of outdated storytelling. While the second half offers a few engaging moments, particularly with comedy and adventure elements, the film struggles to hold interest due to its predictable narrative and weak emotional depth. The attempt to humanize the antagonist in the climax further dilutes the impact. Despite decent performances and technical effort, the lack of originality becomes its biggest weakness.

Bottomline: Routine entertainer

Rating: 2.5/5
