Prabhas’ upcoming period drama Fauzi has drawn criticism over its fictional portrayal of freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose. Netaji’s grandnephew, Chandra Kumar Bose, has written to Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, asking him to look into the matter and have the teaser withdrawn.
Chandra Kumar Bose Questions the Teaser
In his letter, Bose alleged that the promotional video trivialises Netaji’s legacy and distorts history. He asked the minister to investigate how the teaser was reviewed and questioned whether the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had cleared it.
It could not be independently confirmed whether this specific teaser received CBFC certification.
Fictional Spy Storyline Draws Criticism
Titled File No. 25, the teaser opens with a dramatised version of the historical meeting between Bose and Adolf Hitler in Berlin in 1942. In the scene, Hitler questions India’s resistance to foreign rule, and Bose describes a fictional Indian spy associated with wartime operations in Singapore.
The sequence links the spy, played by Prabhas, to a secret code inspired by the Bhagavad Gita. Bose’s objection is to the way the scene uses Netaji to introduce and build up a fictional character.
October 23 Release Date Also Criticised
The teaser was released on October 23, 2026, Prabhas’ 47th birthday. Bose also noted that the date marked the 83rd death anniversary of freedom fighter Bhagabati Charan Panigrahi, who died on October 23, 1943.
In a post on X, Bose appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged director Hanu Raghavapudi to take the criticism seriously. He said he had no personal grievance against the cast and asked for the teaser to be withdrawn, corrected and released again. He also called for the concern to be addressed in the film.
Fauzi Team Has Not Announced Changes
As of October 28, the filmmakers had not publicly announced a response or changes to the teaser. Fauzi is directed by Hanu Raghavapudi and backed by Mythri Movie Makers and T-Series Films. Naveen Yerneni, Y. Ravi Shankar and Bhushan Kumar are associated with the production. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on March 19, 2027.
