PVR INOX Pictures is reportedly weighing a delay to Godzilla Minus Zero’s India release to avoid competing with Ramayana for IMAX screens. The change could give the Japanese film more room later, but its Indian date and access to premium screens remain uncertain.
PVR INOX Weighs a Possible Release Shift
PVR INOX Pictures is reportedly considering postponing the Indian release of Godzilla Minus Zero, which trade reports have placed on November 6. The move would help the film avoid a near-simultaneous clash with Ramayana, scheduled to open in theatres on November 5. However, no official announcement has confirmed a change, and the film’s worldwide release calendar does not list a confirmed Indian date.
The potential shift follows reports that Ramayana may receive most of the available IMAX screenings in India during its opening period. According to Sacnilk, Godzilla Minus Zero could be limited to about one IMAX show a day at some properties. A postponement might remove the immediate competition and give theatres more flexibility to schedule screenings based on demand, but it would not guarantee the monster film more IMAX slots or higher collections.
A New Date Could Bring New Risks
Moving the release could also create challenges. A later date may place Godzilla Minus Zero against other major films, which could again restrict its access to premium screens. The distributor would also need to consider how a change could affect marketing, audience awareness and the momentum of the film’s international rollout.
The timing gap may matter because the film is scheduled to open in Japan on November 3 and North America on November 6. If its Indian release is pushed back, audiences in India could see it after its international debut. The distributor would need to weigh the benefit of avoiding Ramayana against the possibility of facing different competition later.
IMAX Appeal for Both Films
Directed by Takashi Yamazaki, Godzilla Minus Zero follows the success of the Academy Award-winning Godzilla Minus One. It is being positioned as a major theatrical spectacle and is the first Japanese production filmed for IMAX, making premium-format access especially relevant to its release.
Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Raavan, alongside Ravi Dubey, Rakul Preet Singh, Kunal Kapoor and Vivek Oberoi. Its November 5 opening could make IMAX availability valuable during the first weekend. For now, Godzilla Minus Zero’s Indian release plans remain unclear, and any postponement or change to its screening schedule awaits official confirmation.
