Ajay Devgn has revealed that he personally contacted Malayalam superstar Mohanlal to watch Drishyam: The Conclusion and share his approval, as the Hindi franchise takes Vijay Salgaonkar’s story in a completely new direction. Devgn also confirmed that the third film will serve as the final chapter of the Hindi Drishyam series.
Ajay Devgn Seeks Mohanlal’s Approval
Speaking at FICCI Frames, Ajay Devgn said he reached out to Mohanlal because he wanted the Malayalam superstar to watch Drishyam: The Conclusion. Mohanlal plays Georgekutty in the original Malayalam franchise, which inspired the Hindi adaptations. Since the upcoming Hindi film moves away from the Malayalam storyline, Devgn felt Mohanlal’s reaction would be meaningful. He said Mohanlal was on holiday but had remained in touch and was expected to watch the film soon.
Drishyam 3 Takes a Completely New Route
Devgn explained that the third Hindi film features an entirely new script rather than closely following the Malayalam version. While Drishyam 2 introduced changes such as Akshaye Khanna’s character, Drishyam: The Conclusion reportedly takes the divergence much further. According to Devgn, director Abhishek Pathak and the writing team spent nearly two years developing the screenplay. Several versions were reportedly rejected before the makers found a story with the twists, shocks and suspense expected from the franchise.
Vijay Salgaonkar’s Journey Reaches Its Conclusion
The actor confirmed that the makers intend to end Vijay Salgaonkar’s story with this film. Devgn said writing another Drishyam is extremely difficult because audiences have become increasingly skilled at predicting thriller twists. After watching the completed film, he felt the story had reached the right point for a conclusion. He also said, in his personal view, that the third instalment delivers stronger drama than Drishyam 2. For Devgn, the franchise continues to work because Vijay relies on intelligence rather than physical power to protect his family.
Popular Franchise Returns for One Final Mystery
Over the years, Drishyam has developed a strong pop-culture identity, with references to October 2, Goa and Pav Bhaji becoming closely associated with Vijay Salgaonkar’s carefully constructed alibi. Devgn said the team never expected those elements to become so widely remembered. Drishyam: The Conclusion also stars Shriya Saran, Tabu, Jaideep Ahlawat, Ishita Dutta and Saurabh Shukla. The film is scheduled to arrive in theatres on October 2, 2026, bringing the Hindi franchise’s suspense-filled journey to a close.
