Uma Kashvi: Delhi Capitals Sign Youngest WPL Buy At 15 For ₹10 Lakh

Uma Kashvi has reached a major milestone in her cricketing journey, securing a ₹10 lakh contract with Delhi Capitals at the Women’s Premier League 2027 auction. The Karnataka teenager brings batting ability, right-arm off-spin and leadership experience to the franchise.

Uma Kashvi Makes WPL Auction History

At 15 years and 202 days, Kashvi became the youngest player bought at a WPL auction. Delhi Capitals signed her in Kochi on October 28, surpassing the previous age record held by Deeya Yadav, who secured a contract at 16.

The signing follows years of development in Karnataka’s cricket system. Kashvi began training at around seven and a half and later gained experience competing alongside older players.

Karnataka Performances Highlight All-Round Potential

Kashvi finished the Women’s Under-15 One-Day Trophy 2025–26 as the leading run-scorer, collecting 516 runs at an average of 172, including three centuries and a half-century.

Her standout innings came against Manipur on January 10, when she struck an unbeaten 158 from 66 deliveries. The innings included 23 fours and seven sixes and helped Karnataka secure a 275-run victory.

She also contributed with the ball in Karnataka’s Under-19 T20 quarter-final against Vidarbha on October 22. Her figures of three for 18 helped secure a six-run win and earned her the Player of the Match award.

Coach Praises Maturity And Match Awareness

Coach Arjun Dev, who works with Kashvi at Bengaluru’s NICE Cricket Arena, has praised her understanding of the game, fielding and willingness to take responsibility.

Kashvi has captained Karnataka’s Under-15 team and Bengaluru Blasters in the Maharani Trophy. She also represented India Under-19 against Sri Lanka in 2026, taking four wickets across three T20 matches and two wickets in two one-day games.

Arjun believes continued improvement and greater confidence will be important as she adapts to stronger opposition. Her junior achievements provide a foundation, while senior cricket will present fresh challenges.

Under-19 Commitments Could Affect WPL Availability

Kashvi’s first WPL appearance is not guaranteed. According to her coach, involvement in India’s Under-19 World Cup setup could affect her availability if tournament commitments overlap.

A place in that setup should not be confused with confirmed selection in the final World Cup squad. For now, the Delhi Capitals contract gives Kashvi an opportunity to develop further, with her next steps depending on selection, availability and continued performance.
