Supreme Court Clears Vinesh Phogat For Wrestling Trials
Vinesh Phogat Cleared For Trials
The Supreme Court has allowed wrestler Vinesh Phogat to participate in the Asian Games 2026 selection trials scheduled for May 30 and 31. The relief came during the hearing of a plea filed by the Wrestling Federation of India against the Delhi High Court order that had earlier permitted her to take part in the trials.
A bench of Justices P S Narasimha and Alok Aradhe heard the matter. The court’s decision gives Phogat a chance to remain in contention for a place in the Indian wrestling squad for the upcoming Asian Games.
WFI Plea Rejected Ahead Of Selection
The Wrestling Federation of India had challenged the Delhi High Court’s May 22, 2026, order, which allowed Phogat to compete in the selection process. However, the Supreme Court cleared her participation and reportedly observed that she had made the country proud.
The decision is significant as the trials will decide the wrestlers who may represent India at the Asian Games 2026. For Phogat, the order comes as an important legal and sporting relief just before the May 30-31 trials.
