Rahul Gandhi Criticises PM Modi’s Advice on Gold Buying and Work From Home

Rahul Gandhi Responds to PM Modi’s Economic Advice

Rahul Gandhi has criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his recent appeal urging citizens to adopt cost-saving measures amid global economic uncertainties. Gandhi described the remarks as “proof of failure” and accused the government of shifting economic responsibility onto ordinary citizens.

The Prime Minister had earlier suggested a range of steps to help reduce pressure on India’s economy and foreign exchange reserves in the face of rising global tensions and fuel price fluctuations. These included reducing fuel consumption, postponing non-essential foreign travel, limiting discretionary spending such as gold purchases, encouraging work-from-home practices, increasing the use of public transport, promoting carpooling, and supporting domestically produced goods.

Responding to these suggestions, Gandhi said that instead of asking citizens to make sacrifices, the government should focus on strengthening the economy and addressing concerns related to inflation and unemployment. He argued that public appeals for reduced spending and consumption pointed to deeper economic challenges.

The exchange has triggered fresh political debate, with leaders from both sides defending their positions on how India should respond to the economic impact of the ongoing global situation.
