Trump Launches ‘Project Freedom’ to Secure Shipping in Strait of Hormuz

Donald Trump has announced a new maritime initiative, “Project Freedom,” aimed at escorting foreign vessels stranded in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz amid rising regional tensions.

According to the announcement, several countries have approached the United States seeking assistance to safely navigate their ships out of the critical waterway. Many of these vessels, described as neutral and not directly involved in the conflict, have been caught in the escalating situation.

Trump said the US would guide these ships and their crews through restricted waters to ensure safe passage and help them resume normal operations. The initiative is expected to begin soon, with a humanitarian focus, as some vessels are reportedly facing shortages of food and essential supplies.

The US President emphasised that the operation is intended to reduce risks in one of the world’s busiest oil transit routes and benefit all stakeholders. He also warned that any interference with the mission would prompt a strong response, underlining the seriousness of the situation.

Officials indicated that diplomatic engagements with Iran are ongoing, raising cautious hopes of easing tensions. However, the situation remains sensitive, with global markets closely monitoring developments in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial corridor for international oil shipments.

The launch of Project Freedom highlights the growing geopolitical importance of securing maritime trade routes during periods of heightened conflict, as nations seek stability in global energy and supply chains.
