Amitabh Bachchan Ayodhya Land Deal Highlights Real Estate Boom
Amitabh Bachchan’s ₹15-crore Ayodhya land purchase has brought fresh attention to the city’s fast-growing real estate market, where temple tourism, infrastructure development, and rising investor interest are driving demand for premium land parcels.
The veteran actor’s growing association with Ayodhya’s property market came into focus again after Abhinandan Lodha shared an interesting anecdote about a late-night phone call that reportedly led to a major land deal in the temple city.
Speaking at the Hindustan Times India Next Real Estate Summit 2026, Lodha said he received missed calls and a message from Bachchan while he was in Australia in 2023. According to Lodha, the actor said he belonged to Uttar Pradesh and wanted to buy land in Ayodhya. The conversation soon moved to a 15,000 sq ft land parcel, estimated at around ₹15 crore. Lodha claimed that Bachchan transferred the amount the very next day.
Late-Night Call That Led To Ayodhya Deal
Lodha recalled that Bachchan’s first question was about the price of the land parcel. He said he was initially hesitant to discuss pricing with the legendary actor, but Bachchan made it clear that he wanted to proceed with the purchase.
The deal has now become part of a larger conversation around Ayodhya’s fast-changing real estate market. Once viewed mainly through a religious and cultural lens, Ayodhya is increasingly being seen as a long-term investment destination, especially after major infrastructure upgrades and the rising footfall of spiritual tourists.
Ayodhya Emerging As Real Estate Hotspot
At the summit, Lodha said India’s temple towns could become a new frontier for real estate development. He pointed out that large religious destinations can create sustained local economic activity, as tourism brings demand for housing, hospitality, retail, senior living, and plotted development.
He also compared global and Indian pilgrimage centres, saying that when millions of people visit a destination every year, the land naturally becomes more valuable over time. According to him, this is not a short-term trend but a long-term value creation cycle driven by faith, tourism, and infrastructure.
Bachchan’s Growing Ayodhya Investments
Amitabh Bachchan’s interest in Ayodhya is not limited to one land deal. In March 2026, HoABL announced that the actor had acquired a 2.67-acre land parcel worth ₹35 crore near its 75-acre The Sarayu project in Ayodhya. The company said this marked Bachchan’s third investment in Ayodhya and his fourth plotted development purchase with HoABL.
Before that, reports said Bachchan had purchased a 25,000 sq ft plot near The Sarayu in May 2025 for nearly ₹40 crore. In 2024, he had also bought a 10,000 sq ft plot in HoABL’s flagship mixed-use development in Ayodhya for ₹14.5 crore.
Beyond Ayodhya, Bachchan has also invested in HoABL’s Alibaug project, reflecting a broader interest among Bollywood personalities in premium plotted developments. Actors Kriti Sanon and Kartik Aaryan have also been linked to investments in similar HoABL projects.
Temple Tourism Boosts Property Demand
Ayodhya’s transformation has been supported by several major projects, including improved road and rail connectivity, the expansion of the international airport, and development around the Ram Mandir corridor. These changes have increased the city’s appeal among spiritual tourists, developers, and long-term investors.
A Liases Foras report titled Ayodhya – A Rising Global Spiritual Capital said Ayodhya’s real estate market has seen significant growth, with land values rising at a CAGR of 19%. The report also projected that the growth rate could reach 25% by 2035, while locations around the Sarayu riverfront and Ram Mandir corridor saw sharp appreciation between 2020 and 2025.
Long-Term Value Around Faith Destinations
The growing interest in Ayodhya shows how spiritual tourism is becoming an important driver for India’s real estate sector. For developers, temple towns offer opportunities in plotted land, senior living, hospitality, serviced apartments, and second homes.
For investors, the appeal lies in the combination of cultural importance, infrastructure development, and rising visitor numbers. Bachchan’s repeated purchases in Ayodhya have added further visibility to this trend, making the city one of the most closely watched religious real estate markets in India.
