YSRCP chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is reportedly planning to begin a statewide padayatra on July 8, 2027, YSR’s birth anniversary. The proposed campaign would give Jagan an extended period to reconnect with voters and rebuild the party before the 2029 Andhra Pradesh election.
YSR Congress Party president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is reportedly preparing to launch his next statewide padayatra on July 8, 2027, a politically and emotionally significant date for the party.
July 8 marks the birth anniversary of Jagan’s father and former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. Choosing the date would allow the YSRCP to connect the proposed public outreach campaign with YSR’s political legacy and welfare agenda.
Reports citing party sources indicate that the foot march could cover different regions of Andhra Pradesh as part of the YSRCP’s preparations for the 2029 Assembly election. However, the complete route, duration and constituency-wise schedule have not yet been officially released.
Jagan Padayatra 2.0 Date Carries YSR LegacyThe reported launch date is significant because YSR’s birth anniversary remains an important occasion on the YSRCP calendar. Party leaders and supporters regularly organise commemorative and welfare activities across Andhra Pradesh on July 8.
Launching the padayatra on that date would give the campaign a strong symbolic opening. It could help Jagan present the tour as a continuation of YSR’s public-contact politics while mobilising the party cadre around a familiar emotional theme.
Jagan had announced in January 2026 that he intended to undertake a statewide padayatra in about 18 months and spend an extended period among the people. That announcement broadly supports a mid-2027 launch, although the party must still formally confirm the precise programme.
With fewer than ten months remaining before the reported starting date, the YSRCP will need to begin detailed preparations covering the route, public meetings, accommodation, security, volunteers and local coordination.
Jagan Political Comeback Plan Targets 2029 PollsThe proposed padayatra is expected to become a central part of Jagan’s political comeback strategy following the YSRCP’s heavy defeat in the 2024 Andhra Pradesh Assembly election.
The YSRCP won 151 of the State’s 175 Assembly seats in 2019 but was reduced to 11 seats in 2024. The scale of that reversal makes rebuilding public confidence and strengthening the organisation at the constituency level essential ahead of the next election.
A campaign beginning in July 2027 would give Jagan considerable time to visit districts, meet different social groups and raise local issues before the 2029 polls. It would also allow the party to identify organisational weaknesses and assess public opinion well before candidate selection begins.
YSRCP leaders are likely to use the tour to highlight their previous government’s welfare schemes while attacking the performance of the TDP-led coalition. The ruling alliance, meanwhile, is expected to question Jagan’s governance record and promises made during his earlier public outreach.
Praja Sankalpa Yatra Success Sets High ExpectationsJagan’s first Praja Sankalpa Yatra began at Idupulapaya on November 6, 2017, and concluded at Ichchapuram in January 2019. He walked more than 3,600 kilometres, covering most of Andhra Pradesh and interacting directly with voters.
That campaign played a major role in building momentum for the YSRCP before its landslide victory in 2019. The proposed second padayatra will inevitably be compared with that successful political journey.
The conditions in 2027, however, will be considerably different. Jagan will be approaching voters as a former Chief Minister whose five-year administration has already been assessed at the ballot box. The new campaign must therefore do more than recreate the imagery and messaging of the first yatra.
Its effectiveness will depend on whether Jagan addresses criticism of his government, explains the reasons behind the 2024 defeat and offers a credible alternative to the coalition administration.
The July 8 launch could provide a powerful symbolic beginning, but the padayatra’s political impact will ultimately be determined by its message, organisation and public reception across Andhra Pradesh.
