Rahul-Abhishek Meet Sparks TMC-Congress Buzz
TMC-Congress merger speculation has grown after back-to-back high-level meetings, but TMC says the talks were only about INDIA bloc coordination.
TMC-Congress Merger Buzz Grows After Rahul-Abhishek Meeting
Speculation over a possible Trinamool Congress-Congress merger gained fresh momentum after TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Delhi on Wednesday.
The meeting came soon after Mamata Banerjee’s talks with Sonia Gandhi, giving opposition politics another major talking point at a time when the TMC is already facing internal pressure.
TMC Denies Merger Talk
Despite the political buzz, TMC sources have denied that any merger proposal was discussed. Party insiders maintained that the recent meetings were focused on better coordination within the INDIA bloc and a stronger opposition strategy.
The clarification comes as opposition parties try to manage state-level differences while also presenting a united front against the BJP at the national level.
TMC Faces Fresh Pressure
The merger rumours have surfaced during a difficult phase for the Trinamool Congress. Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev resigned from the party and the Upper House, saying she did not want to be in “two boats”.
Her exit has added to the pressure on the party, which is already dealing with reports of dissent among some MPs. The resignation of senior leader Sukhendu Sekhar Ray earlier also strengthened the perception that the party is facing serious internal unrest.
Rebel MP Reports Deepening Crisis
Reports that a section of TMC MPs sought separate seating arrangements in Parliament have further intensified speculation about a possible political realignment.
Some rebel voices have indicated that they are ready to work with both the Centre and the state for West Bengal’s development. This has created fresh questions about the party’s internal control and its future direction in national politics.
INDIA Bloc Strategy Or Bigger Move?
Congress MP Imran Masood’s personal suggestion that TMC and Congress should merge has also fuelled debate. However, TMC leaders have stressed that alliance coordination should not be mistaken for an organisational merger.
For now, the Rahul-Abhishek and Mamata-Sonia meetings appear to be part of a larger opposition strategy discussion. Still, with resignations, rebel voices, and high-level meetings happening together, the TMC-Congress equation is likely to remain under close watch.
