Bengaluru Police Suspended After Gelatin Sticks Found Near PM Modi Route

Six police personnel in Bengaluru were suspended after two gelatin sticks were found near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s movement route during his visit to the city on May 10, 2026. The material was discovered during routine security sanitisation and route checks before the Prime Minister’s arrival. Reports said the recovery was made near Kaggalipura/Tataguni on Kanakapura Road, close to the area where PM Modi was scheduled to attend a programme. The spot was around three kilometres from the main venue, but its location near the movement route raised serious concerns about route clearance and police preparedness.

After the recovery, security agencies immediately cordoned off the area, and bomb disposal and forensic teams were called to inspect the material. Police have launched a detailed investigation to find out how the gelatin sticks reached the location, who placed them there, and whether the incident was meant to create panic or expose a security gap. Some reports also mentioned wires, batteries, or a circuit-like setup near the recovered material, but officials are still verifying the exact nature of the items. The suspended personnel reportedly include a sub-inspector and will remain under suspension until the departmental inquiry is completed.

PM Modi Bengaluru Visit Security Lapse Sparks Political Row

The incident has also triggered a political debate in Karnataka. BJP state president BY Vijayendra criticised the Congress government and called the recovery an “unpardonable and grave failure.” He said there should not be even the smallest lapse when it comes to the Prime Minister’s security and demanded strict action against those responsible, including officials found negligent. The case has now become a major talking point because Prime Ministerial visits usually involve multiple layers of security, including local police, intelligence inputs, route sanitisation, anti-sabotage checks, and coordination between agencies.

For now, the Bengaluru gelatin sticks case remains under investigation. Police are examining the route clearance process, local security arrangements, and possible negligence by officers assigned to the area. The key question is not only why explosive material was found near the Prime Minister’s route, but also how it remained there despite advance security checks. The suspension of six Bengaluru cops shows that authorities are treating the incident seriously, but the final findings of the inquiry will decide whether it was a case of negligence, poor coordination, or a deliberate attempt to create a security scare during PM Modi’s Bengaluru visit.
